In 2001 my son Jaden (then 8 years old), and I started riding in the
equestrian sport of Gymkhana here in California. We started noticing
that people had fun colored tack like neon orange and neon green on
their horses. I asked them where to get the stuff and I heard “Ebay,
catalogs,” etc. But I had a hard time finding all the pieces and
parts, and colors I wanted in one place, or any place for that matter.
Thus Painted Pony Tack was born.
Painted Pony Tack was established in 2004 as a mobile business with
the goal to offer one stop shopping for those who wanted colorful tack
for their horses. The name Painted Pony was inspired by my love for
paint horses and our main goal, to offer whatever color you wanted on
your horse, head to toe, from halters and bridles, to saddle blankets,
to leg protection. Kinda like’ paint your horse with color’.
That was the root of our product line. We continued to add more fun
tack and accessories that complemented the “color on your horse”
theme. We have been able to do business with many of the major equestrian
tack manufacturers, and are always looking for new and fun products
and accessories.
My name is Carla Mason and I am the owner of Painted Pony Tack. In
2007, I married my wonderful husband Vance. In 2008 I retired from a
30 year career as a firefighter with CALFIRE, Vance still has a couple
more years to work for Dixon City Fire Department.
Vance has a lifetime of experience with horses through growing up around
ranching and showing in the Quarter Horse circuit with his daughter
when she was a teenager. Our experiences with horses are very complementary
to each other. We have seven horses, four Paints and three Quarter Horses.
Jaden and I still ride in Gymkhana, though he rides a whole lot faster
than I do, and we really have fun and enjoy the people we meet and ride
with.
We travel with our tack trailer to gymkhanas in California, both with
California Gymkhana Association and California Horsemen’s Association.
We are also the official mobile tack vendor for the “”Sharon
Camarillo Performance Horsemanship for Better Barrel Racing” Clinics
throughout California, Oregon and Nevada, and the Sharon Camarillo Western
Barrel Racing Classic held annually in Reno, Nevada. We love to work
with people who are learning and developing their skills, whether in
gymkhana or barrel racing. Our goal is to provide the best information,
products and support to our customers, whether it is a saddle fit assessment,
saddle pad problem solving, finding the right bit for the horse and
rider’s experience level, or just find that perfect headstall
or colorful pair of splint boots to complete an ensemble. We are also
expanding our offerings for quality tack for competition ponies.
We enjoy meeting people and knowing we have helped make a horse and
rider more comfortable, a better performance team, or just have more
fun riding and competing. Check out our calendar and stop by for a visit
if you are in the area.
But if you can’t visit us on the road please take a look at our
website for some of the products that we carry. Our trailer is full
of things, much more than we can put on this website. But you can see
here on the website the quality and variety that we do offer. If you
are looking for something that you don’t see here, please don’t
hesitate to contact us by email or by phone. We will do everything we
can to find it for you.
Have fun and stay safe and enjoy the ride!
Carla, Vance and Jaden
